Flight crew massage on rest days, at a Schiphol base or on a long Amsterdam layover

A rest day is not a layover, and a flight crew massage on a day off should not be planned like one. This guide is for pilots and cabin crew with real time to spend, whether that is a string of days off near Schiphol or three nights in Amsterdam between rotations.

02 Zone 02, The read

People who fly for a living have two very different kinds of time on the ground. There is the layover, measured in hours and structured around sleep and a report time, and there is the rest day, when the roster finally leaves you alone. Our page on crew rest massage at Amsterdam Airport deals with the first. This guide deals with the second: the days off at home for crew based at Schiphol, and the longer layovers that give a crew two or three days in Amsterdam. The questions change once there is real time. Where in the block of days should a session go? Should it happen at home or somewhere else? How does it fit around the recovery your body actually needs, and around a roster published a month at a time?

Why flight crew massage on rest days needs its own plan

A layover asks you to protect one sleep. A run of days off asks you to recover from a whole block of duties: early reports and late finishes, several time zones, broken nights and long hours on your feet or in a seat. The first day off rarely feels like a day off. Most crew describe it as a day of catching up on sleep and doing very little, the second as the day they start to feel like themselves again, and the last as a day already half taken up by the next trip. A session fits each of those days differently, so it is worth planning with that pattern in mind rather than booking the moment the last duty ends.

The first day off

On the first day, let sleep come first. Book nothing for the morning, however tempting it is to plan a treat for the end of a hard block. If you want a session that day, put it in the late afternoon or early evening, after the long sleep and a meal, and choose something slow: ninety minutes or two hours of sensual massage or erotic oil work, with nowhere to be afterwards. For many crew the first evening off is the best slot of all for a long session, because the whole point of that evening is to do nothing, and a session is the most agreeable way of doing nothing we know.

The middle of the block

By the second or third day off, energy returns and the plan can change with it. This is where livelier formats make sense: body-to-body or nuru, which suit a rested body and a clear head, or a session built as much around conversation as touch. It is also the easiest part of the block to book in advance, because it is the least likely to be disturbed by fatigue or by the next trip. If you have several days, consider one long session in the middle rather than two short ones, and if you want an evening taken care of from start to finish, the eight-hour overnight at EUR 1,250 fits a mid-block night with no plans for the following morning.

The last evening before a trip

The day before a trip is where good intentions go wrong. You want a pleasant evening, but you also need a good sleep before an early report, and nothing should get in the way of that. If you book a session on the last evening, keep it to an hour or ninety minutes, finish early enough that the evening still ends at your normal bedtime, and choose a slow format such as tantra, which is built around unhurried breathing rather than stimulation. If your report is very early, skip it and move the session to the middle of the next block. The session exists to make days off better, never to make the next duty harder.

At home, for crew based near Schiphol

Many crew based at the airport live close to it: in Hoofddorp, Badhoevedorp, Nieuw-West or elsewhere in and around Amsterdam, often in apartments shared with other crew. We work outcall only, so a session at home is exactly as simple as one in a hotel. A few details make it smoother. If you share a flat, choose a time when housemates are out or away on a trip, and a room with a door that closes. Give clear directions to the building: the entrance, the intercom name or code, the floor and the door. Warm the room, clear space around the bed and put out a couple of towels. For addresses near the airport, sessions are arranged ahead; for addresses in central Amsterdam, a therapist can usually be at the door forty to sixty minutes after confirmation.

Long layovers in Amsterdam

Crews from other bases sometimes get two or three nights in Amsterdam, either in the city or in the hotels around the airport. That is enough time to see some of the city, catch up on sleep and fit a session in without any pressure. The rhythm is the same as for days off at home: sleep first, then a long, slow session on the first or second evening, and nothing on the night before the report. If your crew hotel is near the terminal or in a business park, send the request early in the day; if it is in the centre, you can decide in the afternoon. The one difference from a booking at home is discretion, because a hotel full of colleagues calls for a little care about how the therapist arrives, which our crew rest page covers in detail.

When the days off begin with a night arrival

A block of rest days that starts with a late-night landing at Schiphol has a lost evening built into it. You arrive home or at the crew hotel after midnight, tired but not always sleepy, and the first day off begins in the afternoon. Resist booking a session in the small hours unless you are genuinely wide awake and have nothing planned for the next day. A better pattern is to sleep as long as your body wants, eat, spend some time outside, and book a slow session for the early evening of that first day. If you do find yourself wide awake at 02:00 with nothing to do, remember that the small hours are bookable; just keep the session to an hour and choose something calm.

Two therapists after a heavy block

After a particularly demanding run of duties, some crew book four-hand massage, with two therapists working together at EUR 360 an hour. The appeal is simple: two pairs of hands cover the legs, back and shoulders at the same time, so a single hour does work that would otherwise take two. It suits the first evening off, when you want a thorough session but do not want the evening taken up by it, and it suits an apartment with space around the bed better than a compact hotel room. Mention it when you send your roster dates, since two therapists need to be free at the same time, and a little notice gives a much better choice.

Booking around a published roster

Crew rosters usually appear in advance for the month, which makes recurring bookings unusually easy to plan. When yours comes out, look at the blocks of days off, decide where a session would do the most good, and send us the dates and rough times in a single message. We will suggest a therapist for each date, and each one is confirmed as it comes closer. When the roster changes, as rosters do, send the new days and the plan moves. Many crew settle on one therapist they like and book her for the first or second evening of every block, which removes all the explaining and turns the session into part of the routine of coming home.

Choosing a therapist and a language

Crews are international, and after weeks of working in English it can be a pleasure to spend an evening in your own language. The roster of forty-five therapists covers a wide spread of first languages. Colleen, from Ireland, and Charlotte, Harper and Marina, from Britain, work in English; Karina, who is Latvian, speaks Latvian, Russian and English; Cassandra and Sophia are Greek; Grace is Polish; Beatrice, Rita and Sienna are Italian; Caroline is Spanish; and Celia and Rossy, both from Colombia, speak Spanish and English. Mention the language you prefer when you write, and the reply will tell you who is available on your days off.

Discretion off duty

Off duty, discretion is mostly about the people around you: housemates in a shared crew flat, neighbours in an apartment building, colleagues along the same corridor on a layover. The therapist arrives in ordinary clothes with an ordinary bag and looks like any other visitor. She does not need to be introduced to anyone. You pay her yourself when she arrives, in cash of any major currency, by card or in crypto, so nothing appears on a hotel bill or on any account your airline sees. The booking exists only as a WhatsApp thread on your personal phone.

Rates for days off

On a day off an hour costs EUR 180, ninety minutes EUR 270 and two hours EUR 360. Booking two therapists together makes it EUR 360 an hour. The eight-hour overnight stays at a flat EUR 1,250. For addresses near the airport the thread confirms the total before the therapist travels. We only book adults of 21 and over, at home, in an apartment or in a hotel room.

Rest days, summarised

Sleep first on the first day off and book slow sessions for the evening. Use the middle of the block for longer or livelier sessions, or for the overnight. Keep the last evening short and early, or leave it free. At home, choose a private time and give clear directions; in a crew hotel, think about how the therapist arrives. Plan around the roster when it is published and update the thread when it changes. Rest days are the only time the roster belongs to you, and a well-placed session is one of the better ways to spend them.

Asked about this itinerary

Still on the stand

Can a therapist come to my home rather than a hotel?

Yes. We work outcall only, so homes and apartments are served exactly like hotel rooms. Send the address details, including the entrance, intercom or code, floor and door. Near the airport sessions are arranged ahead; in central Amsterdam arrival is usually forty to sixty minutes after confirmation.

Which day in a block of days off is best for a session?

For most crew, the first evening once you have slept, or the middle of the block when energy has come back. Avoid long or late sessions on the evening before an early report.

Can I book sessions for the whole month once my roster is out?

Yes. Send the dates and rough times in one message and we will suggest therapists, confirming each date as it approaches. If the roster changes, send the new days and the plan moves with them.

I share a crew flat. How do I keep it private?

Pick a time when housemates are away, use a room with a door that closes, and give the therapist precise directions so she never needs to ask anyone the way. To anyone watching, she is simply a visitor.

Is there a discount for crew?

No. The rates are the same for everyone and do not change with the hour: EUR 180 an hour, EUR 360 an hour with two therapists and EUR 1,250 for the eight-hour overnight, paid at the door.
