ADE Week Arrivals at Schiphol: Planning a Session Early

ADE week arrivals at Schiphol fill airport hotels with late-night crowds. How a peak-date session fits around festival hours, trains and lost sleep.

Each October, Amsterdam Dance Event brings hundreds of events and a very large number of visitors to the city over five days. Many of them arrive through Schiphol in the days before, and many stay in the airport hotels, where rooms are easier to find than in the centre during the festival. ADE week arrivals at Schiphol have their own rhythm: flights in the afternoon, a nap, a long night out, a morning that starts after noon. A session in the room can fit that rhythm well, as long as it is planned with the hours of the festival in mind rather than those of an ordinary week.

ADE week arrivals at Schiphol and the peak-date rule

ADE is one of the peak dates the house names, alongside King's Day, Pride, the Christmas and New Year run and the big conference weeks. During a peak date every booking is confirmed with half of its price in advance, whatever the length and wherever the room is. Since every airport hotel booking is confirmed that way anyway, a visitor staying near the terminal will notice little difference. A visitor who has booked with the house before and hoped to pay a same-day session in the city entirely at the door will find that, during ADE, a deposit applies.

For one guest with one therapist, the ladder is unchanged: EUR 180 for an hour, EUR 270 for ninety minutes, EUR 360 for two hours, EUR 540 for three. Half of whichever figure applies goes ahead by card, Revolut, Wise or crypto, and the rest is settled at the door in cash in any major currency, by card or in crypto.

Why the airport side fills up

Central hotels during ADE are expensive and often fully booked months ahead. The hotels around Schiphol and in Sloterdijk offer a practical alternative, connected to the city by trains that run through the night on the main line between the airport and Amsterdam. For festival visitors that is attractive: a room at a fair price, a train into town, and a train back in the small hours. The Sloterdijk page describes the station hotels that many visitors choose for exactly this reason.

When to place the session

A festival day is upside down. People sleep until noon, eat in the early afternoon, rest again, and go out after dark. The strongest slot for a session is usually the late afternoon or early evening, between the second rest and going out, or on the first evening after landing, before the week properly starts. A session at 04:00 after a club night sounds appealing to some, but most guests are too tired to enjoy it, and a booking missed because the guest fell asleep once she was already on her way keeps the whole deposit as fee earned.

For the day of departure, a late-morning or early-afternoon hour in the airport hotel before an evening flight is a gentle way to end the week. Drink water, eat, shower thoroughly, and leave early for the terminal, which will be crowded with other visitors going home.

Booking before the festival

Therapists' evenings during ADE fill up earlier than usual. A request sent a week or two ahead gives a far better choice than one sent on the day. Give the dates, the hotel, the start and the length, and name a therapist if you have seen one you like in the profiles. Any booking made more than twenty-four hours ahead is confirmed with a deposit in any case. If your festival plans change, a booking can be moved once to another date within fourteen days, provided you ask more than twenty-four hours before the start.

Two therapists, or a couple

Festival visitors often travel in pairs. A couple sharing a room with one therapist pays EUR 360 an hour; a couple with two therapists pays EUR 720 an hour. A single guest with two therapists pays EUR 360 an hour. Every two-therapist booking is confirmed with half of its price ahead, and during ADE it is worth asking early, since two therapists have to be free at the same moment on the busiest nights of the autumn.

Getting her to the room

Hotels near the airport are busy at odd hours during ADE, and lobbies can be full of groups coming and going in the night. The therapist messages from the lobby, and you meet her by the lifts or she comes up where the building allows. If you are sharing a room with friends, pick a time when they are out, and be clear about that in the thread. Sessions are only for guests who are twenty-one or over, in a room you have booked.

A practical note on sleep

The main risk during a festival week is not the booking but the body. Late nights, loud rooms and irregular meals add up. A session placed in the late afternoon, after a proper sleep and before the night out, tends to feel far better than one wedged between two clubs. If you book only one session during the week, make it the first evening, when you are rested and the week is still ahead. The after midnight page covers small-hours bookings for guests who are genuinely awake and want one.
