The airport hotel belt is the loose ring of hotels around Schiphol, from the terminal to Hoofddorp, Schiphol-Rijk, Schiphol-Oost and Badhoevedorp, all served by arrangement.
On a map of the airport the hotels do not sit in one place. They form a loose ring. A few stand at the terminal itself, a short covered walk from arrivals. Others line the roads running out from it. Further out, the business district of Schiphol-Rijk to the south, the hangar side at Schiphol-Oost, the village of Badhoevedorp to the northeast and the town of Hoofddorp to the southwest each hold a group of their own. Together that is what this site calls the belt.
Central Amsterdam runs on a single arrival window. The belt does not, and the reason is geography rather than preference. The buildings are spread across polder and motorway junctions, and several stand on business parks where a car at night has to be ordered rather than found. So a booking in the belt is agreed to a stated start time in the thread, the therapist's journey out is planned before she leaves, and half the fee is sent ahead on every booking, a single hour tonight included.
They are made for people in motion. Desks staffed through the night, blackout curtains, glazing against aircraft noise, shuttle buses on a timetable, and guests who check in at 04:00 without anyone raising an eyebrow. Parking is easy, lobbies after dinner are quiet, and places to eat nearby are few, which is why evenings on the outer edge can feel long.
